Our annual United Eagles meet-up took place on July 12th.
On Saturday morning, a dozen or so riders from various regions of England lined up at the starting line:
Tomek Sobkowiak and Daniel Fraczek from Southampton, Daniel Hajdas and Przemek Szafarski from Boston, Piotr Meller from Portsmouth, Tomek Kapusta from Basingstoke, Kasia and Paweł Mostowy from Birmingham, Ryszard Rodecki and Marek Piotrowicz from Peterborough, Piotr Mikolajczak, Arek, Rafał Rutkowicz, Patryk Skiba from London and Marcin Moszczynski from Stoke.
The group cycled from Richmond Park through Esher, Cobham, and the picturesque Surrey Hills. The highlight was the iconic climb of Box Hill – an icon of British cycling. The winding Zig Zag Road leading to the summit of Box Hill is one of the most famous cycling destinations in the UK. The climb is approximately 4 km long and has an average gradient of 4%, making it ideal for both training and recreational riding. It was here that key moments of the 2012 London Olympic Road Race took place, and we also had our share of key moments and moments of weakness along this stretch of road. At the top, there was a café, stunning views of the Surrey Hills, and the obligatory souvenir photo. There were also other challenges, including the lesser-known but demanding Combe Lane, which thoroughly tested our leg strength and willpower. 😊
There was also a socialising event 😁 – a small post-ride party at Paleta, where we enjoyed great food, chatted, and got to know each other better… Hell, we even got to jump to the beat of great music.
There’s no need to say much – the weather was great, the ride was fantastic, and the coffee and cake were delicious.
Those who were there know, those who missed it should regret and make sure they don’t miss it again next year!
