On Sunday, May 25th, our clubmates Tomek Kapusta and Tomek Sobkowiak participated in the prestigious Ride London race. The start, scheduled for 6 am, meant that the guys from the south had to wake up very early to get there. The distance to cover was an impressive 100 miles. The Ride London route led through the most picturesque and iconic places in the capital of the United Kingdom. Participants had the opportunity to admire such landmarks as Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, and Big Ben. Unfortunately, the weather that day was not favourable. It rained heavily from the very beginning, which caused a lot of chaos. About 40,000 participants gathered at the start, which meant that you had to be extremely careful to avoid collisions. Our riders stayed together, riding in a group during the intense rainfall. Despite the unfavourable conditions, the Tomks’ average speed was over 30 km/h, which was a really impressive result in such circumstances. The route was demanding but also very well organized. There were three stops along the way where you could stop, drink hot coffee, and replenish isotonic drinks and energy gels. This gave our cyclists a moment of respite and allowed them to recharge their batteries for the rest of the race. At the end of the day, the rain eased a bit, but the route was still wet and slippery. Despite this, our riders maintained a high pace and reached the finish line with smiles on their faces. In the end, heavy, commemorative medals awaited them, which will surely remind them of this challenge. The return from London to the south was quite fast, but after a whole day full of emotions and effort, everyone was already tired. It was a long and demanding day that will stay in our memory for a long time. Congratulations to Tomek Kapusta and Tomek Sobkowiak for their wonderful performance!
