Cycling is a seasonal sport. Even though in the UK you can usually ride and train all year round, many cyclists switch to a turbo trainer in winter or simply take a break from cycling. In any case, there are certainly fewer keen cyclists on the roads during Winter. At United Eagles, it is slowly becoming a tradition to organise a rally at the end of the season. In 2023, such a rally took place on 7th of October. We met near Sheakspear’s town – Stratford Upon Avon.
Our route was 130 km long and had approximately 1,200 m of elevation gain, and the rally was attended by 14 “eagles” from all over England, and even one representative from Scotland! This is what you call sacrifice! To come all that way, just to meet your cycling buddies!
We really liked this part of England. The towns and villages there look really beautiful, and the roads are in really good condition, which is good for cyclists. In addition, there are really nice views all around. Of course, as befits such a meeting, we also stopped at a cyclist-friendly cafe, where we ate tasty cake and drank good coffee.
After the “work” was done, we all went to Pizza Hut where we talked for a few more hours over pizza and beer. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end! We hope the winter passes quickly and we are already waiting for when we will be able to meet again. In the meantime, we will definitely organize virtual meetings on Zwift!
